Causes of anaemia in CRS

What causes anaemia in patients with cardiorenal syndrome?

The origin of anaemia in cardiorenal syndrome is multifactorial.1

  • Renal insufficiency can directly cause anaemia through reduced erythropoietin production.
  • Causes of anaemia in CHF includes inflammation, reduced erythropoietin (EPO) production and EPO resistance, iron deficiency, diabetes, haemodilution, and gastrointestinal blood loss.2
