How should CRAS patients best be managed?
Currently, no guidelines for the management of CRAS are available. As a result, patient management and therapy selection are often solely at the discretion of the treating physician.
During the inaugural CRAS Conference in Zurich, Switzerland (February 2010), the following became apparent:
- Cardiologists tend to focus on aggressive treatment of cardiovascular symptoms
- Nephrologists tend to focus on nephro-protection and renal symptoms.
Therefore, the pathway to diagnosis and management of an individual with CRS or CRAS can depend on their initial contact with the healthcare profession.
There is a need to move towards a new model of care for patients with CRAS. Improved diagnosis and multidisciplinary care teams to manage all aspects of CRAS are needed to help improve patients’ lives.
